Write a novel with #NaNoWriMo

NaNoWriMo or National Novel Writing Month takes place every November. Writers sign-up for the challenge through the NaNoWriMo’s website any time during the year but must write and submit the novel between November 1 and November 30 i.e. they have to write a novel in exactly thirty days which may sound over whelming but NaNoWriMo is there to help you with the process.

The thing that matters most in NaNoWriMo is output. Our high-velocity approach forces you to lower your expectations, take risks, and write on the fly. Make no mistake: you will be writing a lot of strange stuff, and some of it will be just plain bad. But that’s a good thing! For 30 days, you get to lock that inner editor in the basement, let your imagination take over, and just create!

Even if you have never written a novel, you can still participate in this event. NaNoWriMo’s resources section contains free, detailed, and downloadable workbooks to take the budding writers on a detailed novel writing journey. The “100% Awesome NON-LAME workbooks” are highly recommended because they help writers learn about the elements of a novel and provide plenty of explanation in an engaging way. The workbooks are available for elementary, middle, and high school levels. NaNoWriMo also features tips from published authors, links to other writing challenges, and a blog-style section for event-related

Vocabulary with World’s Worst Pet

[vc_row inner_container=”true” padding_top=”0px” padding_bottom=”0px” border=”none”][vc_column fade_animation_offset=”45px” width=”1/1″][text_output]I am re reading one of my favourite books “Anne of Green Gables“. I like Anne quite a lot. Her unique personality, her cheerful disposition, her love of big words AND how she never gave up using big words in her speech even though people laughed at her for it. Good girl Anne![/text_output][text_output]Learning for round pegs - anne of green gables[/text_output][text_output]Building your vocabulary has many advantages. You can read better, write better and even use big words in your speech 🙂

I found a fantastic app which lets you practice your vocabulary in a very fun way. Isn’t the name intriguing? World’s worst pet! Best of all it is FREE.

The only downside is that it is only available for IPads. No IPhones or Androids would be able to have the world’s worst pet.  :([/text_output][text_output]world's worst pet vocabulary app[/text_output][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row padding_top=”0px” padding_bottom=”0px”][vc_column fade_animation_offset=”45px” width=”1/1″][vc_btn title=”Apple Store” style=”flat” color=”black” align=”center” i_icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-apple” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fgeo.itunes.apple.com%2Fus%2Fapp%2Fworlds-worst-pet-vocabulary%2Fid730540095%3Fmt%3D8%26at%3D1001l9ug||target:%20_blank” add_icon=”true”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row inner_container=”true” padding_top=”0px” padding_bottom=”0px” border=”none”][vc_column fade_animation_offset=”45px” width=”1/1″][share title=”Share this Post” facebook=”true” twitter=”true” google_plus=”true” pinterest=”true” email=”true”][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Word Central

[vc_row inner_container=”true” padding_top=”0px” padding_bottom=”0px” border=”none”][vc_column fade_animation_offset=”45px” width=”1/1″][text_output]Word Central is a great site by Merriam Webster where words are power and language is fun. Kids can search for any word in the dictionary, thesaurus and even search for rhyming words. They can build their own dictionary or subscribe for daily buzz word.[/text_output][text_output]Play games with words at words central[/text_output][text_output]But the feature I (and my kids) liked the most was the games section. You can feed the Big-bot correct synonyms and antonyms, fly the Robo-bee through a garden of synonym, antonym, spelling and usage puzzles or drag, drop and click your way to success with Alpha-bot. No music and engaging graphics![/text_output][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row padding_top=”0px” padding_bottom=”0px”][vc_column fade_animation_offset=”45px” width=”1/1″][vc_btn title=”Launch Site” style=”flat” color=”black” align=”center” link=”url:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.wordcentral.com%2Fhome.html|title:Inklewriter|target:%20_blank” button_block=”true”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row inner_container=”true” padding_top=”0px” padding_bottom=”0px” border=”none”][vc_column fade_animation_offset=”45px” width=”1/1″][share title=”Share this Post” facebook=”true” twitter=”true” google_plus=”true” pinterest=”true” email=”true”][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Inklewriter

[vc_row inner_container=”true” padding_top=”0px” padding_bottom=”0px” border=”none”][vc_column fade_animation_offset=”45px” width=”1/1″][text_output]What is an interactive story? Interactive stories are like regular stories but a lot more powerful and fun. Interactive stories let the readers make the choices about a character and what should happen next in the story.

For example you are reading a story about a young wolf born in Yellowstone National Park. One day when the mother wolf is out hunting, the young wolf hears a strange sound outside his den. Should the young pup go outside and find the reason behind the voice or should he stay put.

If it was a normal story, you – the reader, wouldn’t have a say in what the pup should do. But in interactive stories readers can decide what a character, like this young pup, should do. And of course the story is going to be different depending on what choices the characters make.[/text_output][text_output]write interactive stories with Inklewriter[/text_output][text_output]It is a lot of fun to read interactive stories but if you are the writer of an interactive stories, things can get tricky. What with all those branched scenarios and keeping track of how the story will unfold after each decision can make a mess of things.

Luckily there are tools that make this task easy. Inklewriter is one of them.[/text_output][text_output]Write interactive stories with Inklewriter[/text_output][blockquote type=”center” cite=”” id=”” class=”” style=””]

The way our stories work is simple: the reader is given the text of a story in a small chunks, and after each, they get to make a decision about what happens next. That could be what a character says, or does – but it could also be a deeper choice, like why a character has done what they’ve done, or how they feel about something else in the story. Every decision the reader makes is remembered and has the potential to influence things later on – depending on how the author wants to tell their tale.

[/blockquote][text_output]Inklewriter has an easy to use interface. You can watch their tutorial on how to write interactive stories. You can even read many examples even from the classics like Frankenstein or The adventure of the Musgrave Ritual. Once you get the hang of how things work in an interactive story you can go ahead and write your own. No set-up, no programming, no drawing diagrams.

You can even re write another story, allowing the reader to discover different aspects of the world, follow up hints and allusions in the text, and maybe even take some narrative paths that the writer may have considered.

After you are done writing you can share your story. Each story is given its unique web page so sharing a story is really easy. You can even get your story converted to Kindle.

Best of all it is FREE. So just jump in and start creating.[/text_output][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row padding_top=”0px” padding_bottom=”0px”][vc_column fade_animation_offset=”45px” width=”1/1″][vc_btn title=”Launch Site” style=”flat” color=”black” align=”center” link=”url:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.inklestudios.com%2Finklewriter%2F|title:Inklewriter|target:%20_blank” button_block=”true”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row inner_container=”true” padding_top=”0px” padding_bottom=”0px” border=”none”][vc_column fade_animation_offset=”45px” width=”1/1″][share title=”Share this Post” facebook=”true” twitter=”true” google_plus=”true” pinterest=”true” email=”true”][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Many stories have content or art work which is not permissible in our Deen. But there are plenty of books based on permissible stuff as well. Steer clear of things prohibited by Allaah.
